About years

John Nelson Darby did the initial French translation. The New Testament was first published in 1859. He did some corrections in editions published in 1872, 1875 and 1878. The Old Testament was first published in 1885 (he died in 1882).

The last printed edition was done in 1975; a major change was to update chapter number from roman numerals to arabic numerals. There is no known significant modification in all the editions done since Darby's death.

Bibliquest

Currently, the last revision of the CrossWire beta module FreJND is version 1.16 dated 2008-06-13.

The Text Source is from Bibliquest. There are two whole Bible downloads available from Bibliquest:

• HTML format
• MS Word format.

Skc (maintainer of FreJND) developped a tool to convert the text source (encoded in HTML) into the OSIS format, available on koocotte.org/darby.

Versification

French Bibles generally have versification differences compared to the KJV. The current module does not specify a versification in the conf file. The output from emptyvss indicates that there is a real issue that needs fixing:

Known issues

Bugs in the converter tool

Unfixed issues

• Gen.49.1 should not be in a poetic group reported by Yvand
• Space problem due to Tidy (it appears if a line ends with <i...> or <span...>, tidy doesn't add a space when indenting), see for example John.21.5 (twice, after ":" and after "?"), John.18.22, John.18.28, Exod.6.2 (before the parenthesis), reported by Yvand
• Wrong crossReference note matching (capture other caracters mostly dots), some notes for example Matt.2.6, Matt.2.15, Matt.2.18, Matt.4.10 (about 31 notes concerned) includes the dot of the sentence, as others don't (like Matt.1.23, Matt.3.3) reported by Yvand
• Wrong note numerotation when both standart notes and references notes are present (only present in the NT), see Matt.4.10 Heb.3.11 for instance, reported by Yvand
• Wrong paragraph division, examples:
  • add § in Gen.11.27, Gen.25.12 (problem with ☆ ?)
  • add § in several Psalms for example : Ps.3.7, Ps.4.2, Ps.5.3, Ps.27, Ps.14.1 (middle of the verse) (Note : for good example, see Ps.2) (problem with ✱ ? but not always !)
  • add § in 1John.2.13 (twice) and in 1John.2.14
• Wrong note ID in titles of the Song, Rev

• 1Chr.26.18 : Replace in note : "voir la note** à" by "voir la note X à" (X = corresponding ID)
• Zech.5.3 : wrong note ID : note d must be c

Suggestions, ideas for improvement

• Ps.3 : Tags should not be placed in the subtitle, but at verse 1 (no ?)
• Use range verses in osisRef, for continuous verses ("<reference osisRef="Exod.22.26">Exode 22:26</reference>-27" should be replaced by "<reference osisRef="Exod.22.26-27">Exode 22:26-27</reference>" in Job.24.9 (note), for instance) (according to the OSIS Manuel, this syntax is valid).

Resolved issues

• Double dagger symbol (U+2021) in Acts 16:30 reported by David Haslam corrected in 1.17
• Hebrew using "Psaume" instead of "Chapter" reported by Etienne corrected in 1.17
• Typo in Num.33.51 ("paya" instead of "pays") reported by Etienne corrected upstream and in 1.17
• Nested note in Rom.9.33 reported by Yvand corrected in 1.17
• Misplaced alineas (end of previous verse instead of start of next verse) reported by Yvand corrected in 1.17
• Different dates (we can find two different dates : 1859 and 1975, in the .conf file and in the OSIS file (header>work>identifier)) -> See FreJND#About_years
• Update link (replace http://www.bpcbs.com/ by http://www.labonnesemence.com/ in the .conf file) reported by Yvand corrected in 1.17
• Missing letter ID in notes (see Gen.49.5, Num.21.12) reported by Yvand corrected in 1.17
• Remove § in Gen.3.2, Gen.6.2, Gen.7.2, Gen.8.2, etc reported by Yvand corrected in 1.17
• Add § in Gen.10.2, Gen.37.2 (problem with new § on verse 2 not found) reported by Yvand corrected in 1.17

Below is a list of typos found in the source, written in French. These have been reported upstream.

v18 : «L'Esprit du Seigneur ... de bonnes nouvelles aux pauvres ;

v19 : il m'a envoyé ... du *Seigneur» [Ésaïe 61:1-2].

Il est à noter que les notes sont tout à fait correctes (font référence au bon découpage !)

Par contre dans ma version papier j'ai une note en plus au verset 18 sur le mot envoyé.

Dans les notes :

• Exod.31.18 : oubli d'un point après C (A.C au lieu de A.C.)
• Num.3.16 : mettre "ici, et ailleurs très-souvent dans" en italique (actuellement très et dans ne le sont pas)
• Num.11.1 : mettre "ou" en italique au début de la note
• 2Sam.24.25 : Absence de note 25, remplacer "v. 22, 24" par "v. 22, 24, 25" dans le paragraphe des notes à la fin du chapitre
• 2Kgs.23.11** : supprimer l'espace après le crochet ([ ?] au lieu de [?])
• 1Chr.1.51 : mettre "ou" en italique au milieu de la note
• Ps.118.27 : ajouter espace dans la note après : avant [
• Isa.41.19***, Isa.49.12, Isa.65.11** : remplacer [ ?] par [?]
• Isa.61.3 : erreur dans la référence, Ezek.17 v13 au lieu de v23,24
• John.18.32 : oubli de l'étoile verte pour signaler une note (bien présente dans le paragraphe des notes)
• Acts.17.14, Rom.1.20** : mettre "c. à d." comme ailleurs au lieu de "c'est à dire"
• Rom.4.8 : mettre "c. à d." comme ailleurs au lieu de "c'est à dire" + ajouter l'italique
